FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
On July 1, 2014, CDB-L will transition from its longtime home on the Cornell University server to its new home on the Opportunity Finance Network (OFN) server. The transition will be so seamless you may not even realize it’s happened. Everything you know and love about CDB-L will remain the same: name, features, and community!
Of course, every change brings questions. Below are answers to those most frequently asked.
What exactly is changing?
CDB-L is moving from being hosted at cornell.edu to ofn.org. For CDB-L users this means posting to firstname.lastname@example.org will no longer work. You will post to a new email address: CDBL@ofn.org.
When is this happening?
July 1, 2014
Will I have to subscribe all over again?
If you are a current CDB-L subscriber, you will automatically be added to the new system. No re-subscribing needed.
And if you want to unsubscribe, send an email with the Subject Line or body message 'unsubscribe' (no quotes) to CDBLemail@example.com
What about my preferences? Will they automatically transfer as well?
Yes. Your preferences will migrate with your subscription.
So what do I have to do?
To ensure uninterrupted service, all you have to do is make sure that your spam filter will accept emails from CDBL@ofn.org. And send all CDB-L messages to CDBL@ofn.org. That’s it! After June 30, the email firstname.lastname@example.org will not work.
How do I check my spam filter?
Email providers determine what is spam in different ways. Talk to the person at your work who manages email. Ask for ofn.org to be added to your safe list. If you participate in CDB-L from a personal email account, most of the big ones (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo, Apple) provide instructions about managing filters in their help sections.
Are all of the CDB-L features also transferring?
Yes. CDB-L will continue to offer options for subscribers to customize their experience. Subscribers can login to change their email address, change their password, and update their preferences for mail delivery. There is also an option to get a password reminder, if needed.
Can I still read archived posts?
Yes. Posts on or after July 1, 2014 will be archived on the ofn.org site. For period of time, you can read archived posts from June 30, 2014 and before at www.communityinvestmentnetwork.org/CDB-L/.
Why is this change happening?
This transition will strengthen OFN’s ability to continue to manage this listserv. Since 1994, CDB-L has lived on a server at Cornell University, which means that posts were submitted to an address @cornell.edu. This hosting arrangement was set up by the founder of the CDB-L, Bill Myers. We are thankful to Bill for his commitment to the CDB community and also for the generous support of Cornell University. Twenty years later, however, it is time for the CDB-L to move! We look forward to providing the same great service from a new address @ofn.org.
