Thu, 2020-01-16 09:18
From : Communities>>Open Forum
I would love to hear what other CDFIs do when they get loan requests from start-up businesses that are in unique industries or technical industries that their staff is not familiar with.  How do you evaluate their business plan and projections?  Thanks! ------------------------------ Amy Williams Project Specialist Mountain Association for Community Economic Development, Inc. How exciting. Thanks for letting us (the CDFI community know) of this event. Would it be possible for someone to include "people with disabilities" in your remarks? Such as, CDFIs help drive affordable capital into low-income communities, including the disability community, communities that are often overlooked ..."? So often the disability community is overlooked completely. Thank you! ------------------------------ Susan Tachau CEO Pennsylvania Assistive Technology Foundation King of Prussia PA [More]

Good afternoon. Let me add a thanx for setting up the discussion on Express Loans last week. I was not able to sit in and hope it went well. As a software supplier in this industry, staying ahead of the demands in the marketplace is of key importance to us. if there are any notes being shared across the group, is it possible to include me?  Our Loan Application Portal could be a cost effective approach to speeding up the process. RE: SEFA treatment of CDFI FA award for loan capital

We report the lending portion of our FA awards as restricted net assets until our lending meets the CDFI reporting requirement, which we understand to be the amount of the award.  Our interpetation is that the lending we report for complying with the award does not need to include FA capital.  in this manner, we also have used FA awards for ALL provision.   Cal ------------------------------ Cal Vinal President & CEO Capital for Change Hartford CT (860) 586-2028 ------------------------------

Wow, Mackenzie. Your organization has been through some really difficult challenges and significant changes. Your work is beautiful and I hope you are able to raise sufficient funds to acquire the location you have identified. Base on what you wrote, I'm not clear if this path would be an option but you ever explored converting the organization to being a nonprofit for training, education and preservation purposes and setting up the production studio and sales as a subsidiary, for-profit social enterprise?  [More]

SEFA treatment of CDFI FA award for loan capital

If you have a CDFI FA award that was made in part for loan capital: 1. What do you report on the SEFA (Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Award) as expenditures -- loans disbursed with the initial award - or -  loans disbursed with the initial award and then loans disbursed with the interest and repaid principal of the initial disbursements? 2. When do you stop tracking expenditures -- at the end of the grant period, when all the funds have been used once for disbursements, until loans made during [More]

Thank you for the videos as the second generation of a small ceramic art, design and slip cast production studio , which began in 1952 by training women formerly employed in the fish packing industry in the skills of hand making ceramics, I am familiar with the message but have never before seen it expressed openly by others. Metro Philadelphia's  Generocity,  distributed by Technically Media Inc., posted the below videos, produced by the Human Services Council of NY. Having worked on both sides of the industry, I think these are two, brilliant, must-see videos for non-profits, funders, and other stakeholders! They are brief, will serve as a quick break in your day, and will probably give you a good laugh, or cry (LOL). It's totally worth the time investment. Looking forward to your feedback.  Everyone Deserves A Fair [More]
