Launched on International Women’s Day on March 8, the global Google.org Impact Challenge for Women and Girls (GIC) is committing $25 million to fund organizations creating pathways to prosperity for women and girls around the world. The GIC is an open call that asks social innovators — nonprofits, universities, and social businesses — how they would make their community an even better place. Selected charitable initiatives will receive up to $2 million, as well as opportunities for mentorship and additional support from Google.

Women community leaders and topical experts from more than 15 countries, including OFN President and CEO Lisa Mensah, will join Google.org in evaluating project submissions and providing input into the selection of a cohort of grantees that have the greatest potential for impact.

Chosen for their deep expertise in areas including global public policy, advocacy, research, business, technology, and more, other panelists include Google.org VP and President Jacquelline Fuller; first-ever U.S. Youth National Poet Laureate Andrea Gorman; YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki; professional tennis player and activist Naomi Osaka; global artist and philanthropist Shakira; and more than 20 other distinguished women leaders around the world.

Key dates:

  • Applications close and application reviews begin – April 9
  • Successful grantees announced during UN General Assembly week – Q3 2021
  • Capacity building and Googler support – 2022+
  • Application workshop recordings – (occurred March 15, 16, and 17)

Google.org is partnering closely on this GIC with two of the world’s leading voices in the field of gender equality: Vital Voices and Project Everyone. Through the 40 GICs Google.org has hosted in more than 20 countries — plus a small number of marquee regional and global programs — they have funded more than 400 nonprofits and social enterprises and have directly engaged with more than 300 high-profile experts.
