WWBIC was featured in the Journal Sentinel for its work helping minority- and women-owned microbusinesses "get a leg up" before and after launching with their curriculum of entrepreneurial training. WWBIC currently has 700 active loans in its $18 million loan portfolio.
“We’re lending to real or perceived high-risk individuals or businesses and we have a 97% or higher payback [rate], so we’re doing something right there,” says Baumann. “We’re also very pleased that 88% of our clients in Milwaukee are a minority—that’s significant because there is still great inequity and disparity in the U.S.” said Wendy Baumann, WWBIC's president.
