On February 7, Financial Times reporter Rana Foroohar highlighted the work of OFN member ROC USA, who with its local affiliate Casa helped residents of the now thriving 76-lot Clackamas River Community Cooperative (CRCC) in Portland, Oregon, come together in 2012 to buy the land on which their manufactured housing community sits.
Amidst rising interest in manufactured housing among profit-motivated private equity investors, CDFIs like ROC USA are dedicated to ensuring places like CRCC remain affordable, community-oriented options where residents can make their homes and build economic security.
“People talk about ‘trailer park kids,’” ROC USA president Paul Bradley said. “But what if you had manufactured housing communities where people were like, ‘Hey, look at all the great stuff they have there! I want to live there too.’”
