In 2019, Wells Fargo, First Nations Oweesta Corporation, and OFN launched the Native CDFI Awards. The three-year program honors and supports Native CDFIs that are creating opportunity and promoting self-sovereignty in Indian Country nationwide.
When the awards launched last year, no one could have imagined the impact a brutal pandemic would have on already stressed Native communities. In 2020, the Native CDFI Awards hold special import as Native CDFIs respond to COVID-19 and help tribal communities weather the economic impacts of the crisis.
To advance the work of Native CDFIs, in 2020 the Native CDFIs Awards are offering two awards:
- The Native CDFI Catalyst Award is a $100,000 grant to one Native CDFI with a compelling strategy.
- The Native CDFI Seed Capital Award is a $25,000 grant to one Native CDFI to support a strategy with great potential.
Strategies might include but are not limited to COVID-19 response and recovery, new products or new product innovations, geographic expansion, product scaling, product and program replication, and back-office infrastructure development.
Applications for the 2020 Native CDFI Awards open today, August 26, 2020 and close on October 2, 2020.
