In a blog post published today by the Aspen Institute, OFN President and CEO Lisa Mensah introduced five of the Aspen Institute Economic Opportunities Program’s 2018-2019 Job Quality Fellows. The group, which includes leaders from OFN member CDFIs, are specifically focused on capital deployment as a strategy for encouraging and advancing job quality. In their communities, they are putting capital to work to create and increase quality jobs and expand opportunity for all:

  • Amanda Blondeau, Northern Initiatives

  • Tomas Duran, Concerned Capital

  • Alison Lingane, Project Equity

  • Bhairvee Shavdia, HCAP Partners

  • Eric Weaver, Opportunity Fund

Highlighting that "CDFIs are the original impact investors, profit-motivated but not profit-driven, investing for a double bottom line in areas where capital doesn’t flow naturally," Lisa shares how these Fellows are expanding their work into new areas.

“CDFIs aren’t status quo organizations. We’re change agents, pushing beyond norms to do more and better,” Lisa states. “I’m excited that job quality is part of this mix. With increased frequency, we’re looking not only at the number of jobs created in a community but the quality of these jobs."
