Registration is now open for the April 10-12, 2019 Fundamentals of Opportunity Finance course in Durham, NC.
The three-day program is designed to ramp up new or recent entrants into the field with the critical knowledge they need to be effective in their new positions. This is not just for CDFI practitioners but also key CDFI partners, like banks, foundations, and public agencies. Over the course of the program, participants gain insights into how CDFIs provide financing and financial services to low-income, low-wealth, and other disinvested communities. The course features guest speakers, group discussions and exercises, case studies, and a site visit to projects financed by a local, award-winning CDFI.
The objectives of the program are to:
- Provide participants with an understanding of the history, models, products, and players in the opportunity finance field.
- Expose participants to best practices and trends in financing, capitalization, and operations of CDFIs
- Inform participants about impact measurement and evaluation as well as key policy issues impacting the industry.
- Learn about portfolio policies and management as well as underwriting loans to CDFI borrowers.
Through the generous support of BB&T, a limited number of partial scholarships are available. Please note that the Scholarship Award does not cover the cost of accommodations or travel. The deadline to apply for a scholarship is January 15.
This course is jointly offered by the Carsey School of Public Policy at the University of New Hampshire and Opportunity Finance Network.
