In a few weeks, on March 21, OFN offers its first-ever training for retail banks interested in underwriting CDFIs. CDFI Underwriting Training for Regional Banks is specifically designed for staff of banks who want to learn how to assess the creditworthiness of nonprofit loan funds.

“We’ve long offered individual training for banks and investors,” said Beth Lipson, Treasurer. “This new workshop is a way for us to meet a growing interest among smaller and mid-sized banks in CDFIs. It will help underwriters and credit analysts at these banks—whether they’re familiar with CDFIs or completely new to the industry—understand how to evaluate and underwrite CDFIs. Our goal is to provide attendees with an overview of our industry and a comfort level with investing in it.”

Guided by Donna Fabiani, OFN’s EVP of Knowledge Sharing, and Lisa Wright, OFN’s SVP, Financial Services, attendees will participate in a hands-on case study and learn about the CDFI industry, the CAMEL approach to underwriting, and portfolio management. Attendees will also have the opportunity to interact with each other and meet OFN’s new Chief Lending and Investment Officer, Amir Kirkwood.
