This week, nominations open for the Eleventh Annual Native Awards. Florida Community Loan Fund (FCLF) invests $1.6MM in a Florida food bank to benefit 100 schools and 400 human service agencies in four Florida counties. The Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago named Accion Chicago a Community First Fund Partner. OneUnited Bank, is launching the national #BankBlack Challenge to harness the economic power of the Black community focused on one clear financial message that #BlackMoneyMatters. 

  • Call for Nominations for the Eleventh Annual Native CDFI Awards— First Nations Oweesta Corporation and Opportunity Finance Network (OFN) are proud to announce the Eleventh Annual Native CDFI Awards, which recognize excellence in the Native CDFI industry. Two awards will be given away in 2016, including the Circle of Honor for Outstanding Leadership, which recognizes a Native CDFI that is successfully increasing access to capital and financial resources in Native communities. The second award will recognize a Visionary Leader for Outstanding Achievement, which recognizes a person who has made a long-term contribution to the Native CDFI industry and whose efforts make them an inspiration for others.
  • 274 Units of Workforce Housing Complete in New Jersey—The fourth and final phase of the Gloria Robinson Court Homes, a mixed-income apartment community in Jersey City, has been completed. The phase includes 70 one- to four-bedroom units for working families and a 10-classroom Head Start early childhood education center, being administered by Greater Bergen Community Action.
  • Study: Race Still a Major Factor in Mortgage Lending: NCRC Report Shows Racial and Income Disparities in St. Louis, Milwaukee—A new study released this week by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition shows that race is still a significant factor in mortgage lending in two major U.S. metro areas. According to the NCRC study, the racial composition of a neighborhood is a strong predictor of mortgage activity in St. Louis and Milwaukee.
