Financing and technical assistance, with support from the Finance Justice Fund
Mary Camacho launched SD Recycling Depot in 2017 to help reduce waste in her community and promote environmental awareness and responsibility by making the waste disposal process convenient and straightforward. When she was in search of social media marketing assistance to increase awareness about her business and affordable capital to support operations, her quest led her to discover Pacific Community Ventures (PCV), a community development financial institution (CDFI) based in Oakland, California.
Mary turned to PCV versus mainstream institutions because of the CDFI’s combined technical assistance and affordable capital for small business entrepreneurs like herself. She was matched with a PCV Pro Bono Business Advisor with significant experience in social media, communications, and online marketing. The advisor helped Mary with her social media strategy and execution, including tagging, frequently posting, leveraging stories, and much more. With the help of PCV, along with the Finance Justice Fund, Mary was also able to secure the funds she needed to support her business operations and compensation for her employees.
SD Recycling Depot has become an informative and educational resource for the community, helping people understand the importance of recycling and how vital it is to the environment. SD Recycling Depot is more than just a recycling center; it’s a community that cares about the environment.
