Summary

OFN is expanding our accounting team and seeks a new Senior Associate. The Sr. Associate will assist in developing and maintaining OFN’s budgets, reporting, and analysis. This role also serves as an administrator for the organization’s payroll and timekeeping software ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This position is based in Washington, D.C. All staff currently work a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, including general ledgers, balance sheets, and income statements.
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual budget and monitor adherence to budget guidelines.
  • Prepare month-end and quarter-end related journal entries and other transaction activity as necessary.
  • Assist with year-end closing procedures and preparation for the annual audit.
  • Fulfills requests for external audit team on documentation and testing to complete year-end audit.
  • Cross-train and provide surge capacity support for Accounting Associates.
  • Perform bank reconciliations.
  • Supports the accounting team with updating financial systems and financial/accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with state agencies and corporate taxes as required.
  • Oversees time and labor tracking system and serves as administrator of payroll and timesheet software platform.
  • Stay up-to-date on relevant accounting regulations and best practices for non-profit organizations.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned by VP, Accounting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or 5-7 years direct work experience in lieu of a degree required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a non-profit setting required.
  • Experience with grant accounting and reporting desirable.
  • Experience working in a CDFI or nonprofit environment is desirable.
  • Advanced digital literacy and ability to navigate workplace technology including administrative accounting software (e.g., MIP Cloud), payroll software, databases, and Salesforce.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage complex and highly confidential information exercising initiative and sound judgment/decision-making with a solution-oriented focus.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and non-profit accounting standards.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work well and collaboratively with diverse constituents and interface with employees at all levels of the organization, OFN Members, OFN investors, and funders is required. Comfortable working autonomously and across multiple tasks and reporting to different project working teams.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, within tight deadlines in a clear, level-headed manner; ability to turn work around within a short period of time where demands are liable to change quickly effectively, and efficiently.
  • Effective and professional written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Position involves normal physical requirements for an office position.
  • Minimal travel required (10% of time).
