Background

The Genesis Community Loan Fund (www.genesisfund.org) is a mission-driven, focused, effective, caring, collaborative, and creative organization looking for a Senior Program Officer to assist with overall management of our technical assistance (TA) program. The new team member will support our work at an exciting time of organizational growth and development.

A certified nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), Genesis works throughout Maine and northern New England to make flexible loans, deliver expert project guidance, and promote policy solutions and systemic change. We offer impact investing for individuals and institutions to move resources toward community needs.

Genesis was launched in 1992 by Maine residents who wanted to make sure their neighbors had access to affordable housing.

Genesis works with communities to:

  • Increase and preserve affordable rental housing;
  • Create new homeownership opportunities;
  • Finance solutions to homelessness and housing instability;
  • Promote opportunities to build generational equity and wealth;
  • Support a clean-energy transition; and
  • Address critical needs, including access to food, healthcare, and childcare.

Operating for more than 30 years, Genesis is in an exciting period of growth and expanding visibility. In the last 5 years, Genesis total assets have increased nearly five-fold and our loan portfolio now exceeds $45M.

Summary

The Senior Program Officer will be responsible for ensuring that the organization’s annual and strategic program goals are met through the provision of high-quality technical assistance. This position also ensures compliance and performance with the requirements of a variety of grants, contracts, and programs that support the Genesis TA program. Responsibilities include building and managing relationships with potential and existing Genesis clients, conducting outreach to community groups and nonprofit organizations, and maintaining strong connections with funding and industry partners. The Senior Program Officer will also field inquiries from potential technical assistance clients and coordinate and/or provide technical assistance services to clients. The Senior Program Officer will assist with the development of funding applications to support the organization’s program work and with reporting to those funders and other partners.

Responsibilities

This is a full-time position based out of in our Brunswick, Maine office. However, we currently offer flexibility regarding work location and the possibility of time to work from home.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to the Genesis mission and our values and a passion for bringing capital to vital community projects. We are seeking a professional with 3 to 5 or more years of demonstrated experience in community development, and/or real estate development, or comparable experience and transferable skills in the affordable housing and/or nonprofit sectors. They should have strong knowledge of the building development process and funding and financing options for affordable housing and community facility development, as well as experience managing programs and ensuring compliance and coordination with internal and external stakeholders. Competency in building individual and organizational relationships and demonstrated experience working with diverse constituencies is essential. We seek a candidate with knowledge of and commitment to advancing racial equity within organizations and through organizational work.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual compensation for this position starts at $105,000. Genesis offers a generous benefits package that includes paid time off, medical/dental/life insurance, short- and long-term disability, flexible spending account, matched 401(K) retirement savings plan and a paid sabbatical after ten years of full-time continuous service to the organization.
