Summary

Reporting to the CFO, the Sr. Accounting Manager manages an accounting team of 3 accounting associates responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, budgeting and reporting. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations, monthly general ledger close, internal and external reporting, managing the budget and audit, and other duties. This individual is also responsible for performance analysis and presentations to department directors and senior leaders. The ideal candidate will have an accounting degree and extensive prior experience with all aspects of accounting, budgeting, and forecasting, as well as strong communications skills to convey essential financial information across all levels of the organization.

Location

This position is based in Washington, DC near McPherson Square Metro as part of a hybrid environment with Tuesdays, Thursdays, and sometimes Wednesdays in the office.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of accounting associates in all aspects of accounting – accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, account reconciliation, and accounting and reporting of federal and non-federal grants
  • Execute a timely monthly close and provide senior leaders with detailed financial analysis
  • Issue timely financial reports to department directors and senior leaders to ensure fundraising and spending is within budget
  • Work collaboratively with department directors and senior leaders on accounting and reporting for federal and non-federal grants; guide program staff in maximizing grant funds.
  • Oversee the annual budget process and forecast updates working collaboratively with department directors and senior leaders
  • Manage the annual financial audit working closely with finance staff and auditors
  • Develop and maintain written accounting policies and procedures and monitor staff to ensure processes are followed
  • Assist with the preparation of the organization’s Forms 990, 5500, and indirect cost rate proposal
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
  • Interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign and direct work; evaluate performance; ensure accountability; address complaints and resolve problems

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of accounting experience
  • Proven supervisory experience
  • Nonprofit experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of accounting theory
  • Highly detail oriented and organized
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, senior leaders, and external organizations, vendors and other partners to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, and results

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range:$125,000.00 To 130,000.00 Annually
