Doug Bystry, Executive Director of Clearinghouse CDFI, led a discussion on the OFN Innovation Guide, “Clearinghouse CDFI: The For Profit Model”. The call was an absorbing discussion on Clearnighouse’s unique in the industry, for-profit loan fund structure which includes the mission-driven mission and strategies of a nonprofit. Participants had many questions for Doug on this innovative corporate structure, covering topics such as the history of Clearinghouse CDFI, the relationship with its nonprofit affiliate, and the differences in how it raises equity and debt from banks, foundations, and the CDFI Fund.

Innovation Guide – The Minnesota Community Capital Fund Model: Leveraging Gap Financing from the Secondary Market

Scott Martin, the author of the OFN Innovation Guide, “Minnesota Community Capital Fund: Leveraging Gap Financing from the Secondary Market” led a fascinating discussion on the Community Capital Fund structure which uses local investor funds to leverage an "advance commitment" from the secondary market to cover gap financing for businesses. Participants had many questions for Scott on this innovative corporate structure, covering topics such as who are the Members of the fund, the relationship with Community Reinvestment Fund, and the credit risk policies of the fund.
