The Sammies are the Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals, designed to highlight excellence in our federal workforce and to inspire talented individuals to go into public service. Named for the founder of Partnership for Public Service, who was inspired by President Kennedy’s call to serve in 1963, these awards align with Heyman’s vision of a dynamic and innovative federal workforce that meets the needs of the American people.
There are 32 inspiring finalists from various federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and the U.S. Small Business Administration. Lisa Jones, Program Manager for the CDFI Bond Guarantee Program is one of the finalists. Since 2013, this program has provided low-cost, long-term capital via $852 million in loans to low-income communities. Jones works closely with the staff from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, several other federal entities, investors and lenders in Community Development Financial Institutions across the country, and other stakeholders.
